Man Arrested After Arranged Marriage

Teen Girl Back With Family

While most people marry for love, court records show a 14-year-old girl agreed to an arranged marriage for sex.

On Monday, the teen's husband has been charged with statutory rape.

"She got married because she wanted to have sex," the girl's aunt said. Because of their religion, they encouraged marriage prior to sex. So that she wouldn't go to hell, she said that she wanted to get married."

The aunt of the girl said a couple of months ago Vincent Mosby, 23, of Kansas City arranged to marry her niece by giving the girl's mother and stepfather a dowry of a watch and ring. The parents agreed, but the marriage was not legal.

Police said Mosby and the girl then had sex several times at an apartment at 20th Street and Park Tower Road.

"It makes no sense whatsoever," the aunt said. "What are you teaching your child about the values of marriage?"

When the aunt found out about the marriage, she took her niece to her house. She said Mosby called her soon after that.

"He told me I had 72 hours to turn over his wife or he would terrorize me," she said. "I told him I wasn't turning over anything."

Two days later, someone shot up her house, she said. Family members said the girl's mother got pregnant at 14 and became a Muslim at 15. Even though Muslim law allows the arranged marriage, but American law does not.

Officials said Mosby should have known better.

"When you are 23 years old you know you should not be having sex with a 14-year-old girl," the aunt said.

Mosby is in jail facing charges of second-degree statutory rape. The girl is with relatives who said they are determined to help her have a normal teen life.
