WEATHERBY LAKE, Mo. -- Missouri officials reopened Weatherby Lake Saturday after it was closed for nine days after an E. coli contamination. Some boaters wasted no time getting out on the lake during an unseasonably warm Saturday."We're just loving the day," Weatherby Lake resident Linda Chenault said. "We thought we just had to be out here, this is what living out here is about."Linda and husband William said they wanted to get out on the lake before winter hits."We eat one or two of the varieties -- which we don't catch those very often," Chenault said. The Chenaults said they take the catch and release appeoach to fishing, except for those select varieties they eat. They said if they catch the right variety of fish, they will eat it, despite of the E. coli contamination."Evidently the report was good, so if yes, why not?" William Chenault said.More than 1,000 gallons of sewage spilled into the lake after a power outage, according to Missouri Department of Natural Resources officials. Pumps stopped working, causing a sewage overflow from a nearby manhole.Boaters and residents said they were more concerned with the warm temperatures than the condition of the lake."I really don't see any problem with it," Linda Chenault said. "It just seems to be something we have every so often."The Department of Natural Resources retested the water and said their results show the water is well within the federal E. Coli levels.
