A teenage boy was home alone when someone tried to break into his house, police said.

Police were in the 2400 block of Euclid Street looking for homicide suspect when they go a call of a burglary in progress just a block away.

The teenager, Hassan Burnett, was home enjoying a day off from school when he heard someone trying to get into his house.

"I came downstairs and when I peeked around the corner I saw him in the window trying to get in the house, so I ran across the street to use the phone," he said. "I didn't know what to do."

"The doorbell was just ringing and ringing uncontrollably," said neighbor Michelle Williams. "And it scared me."

Williams said as scared as she was it was nothing compared to the look on her 15-year-old neighbor's face.

"He was really scared and upset," she said. "He was like, 'Ms. Michelle, Ms. Michelle. Somebody's trying to break into my house.'"

It turned out to be two men breaking a window and police said they were trying for a quick score. Officers, however, were nearby and responded quickly to the scene.

"The response time couldn't have been faster unless they were sitting in the driveway," said Det. Tim Mountz.

Williams called police and they were there in a matter of seconds and arrested two men, including one who was still inside the house.

Burnett's mother was extremely proud of her son's quick thinking.

"I'm glad my son did the right thing," said Jeniece Burnett. "You can replace material things, but you can't replace my son's life."
