Son Enraged By Father's Attack

Police Still Looking For Woman Who Beat Prairie Village Man

The victim's son, who is serving in the military, never expected to come home to find his father badly beaten after taking a trip to a Prairie Village grocery store.

"There are a lot of emotions," said Bill, whose father was attacked by a woman early Tuesday morning at the Hy-Vee store near 76th Street and State Line Road. "I'm angry at the person and said it was my dad."

Bill, who is home visiting his family for a few weeks, said it makes him sad to look at his father's face and know the person who did the damage is still walking the streets.

"I think she deliberately stalked the parking lot," he said. "She deliberately waited for the opportunity and picked her target and went after what she wanted."

Bill's father, Harold, sat with KCTV5 in his kitchen on Wednesday still black and blue from the attack. He and his wife went to the store to buy some items to prepare meals for their son's special visit. Police said the woman yanked Harold out of the car and beat him repeatedly as she attempted to rob him.

"When he came home and I saw him, it was awful," Bill said. "He was bloody and dripping blood on the floor."

Bill had only been home for a few days when the incident happened. He is here on leave from the Coast Guard. He had been looking forward to going hunting with his dad, but the attack has put a family tradition on hold.

Bill said it's hard to fight back the tears because no one wants to see their father hurt and humiliated like this.

"I'm glad I wasn't there because I'd be in prison for ending a person's life," he said. "It makes me angry to see my dad getting beat up."

Police continue to follow leads in the case, but no arrests have been made.
