The neighbors of a woman killed while gardening in her front yard this summer told KCTV5's Eric Chaloux that they are relieved that a teen driver has been charged in the death.

Jill Conaghan, 19, was charged with involuntary manslaughter and three other traffic charges stemming from the wreck that killed 70-year-old Sandra Carocari on July 18 near West 99th Terrace and Farley Lane. Investigators said she left the scene, but later returned with her parents.

"It was just the beginning of her retirement and she was killed," said neighbor Marlene Wright. "And I think that's terrible. It's just sadness and real loss, especially for someone like that."

Conaghan faced a Johnson County judge on Wednesday afternoon. KCTV5 did not see any of her family members in the courtroom and outside the courtroom, Conaghan's attorney did not want to comment about the case. The judge set bond at $100,000 and she will have a bond hearing Thursday.

Carocari's husband did not want to talk about the incident, but the neighbors said they've been waiting for this day.

"I just feel better to know that she is being held accountable," Wright said.
