PRAIRIE VILLAGE, Kan. -- A Prairie Village man was beaten and robbed near his car, while waiting for his wife to shop for groceries. At 1:52 a.m., Prairie Village police responded to a call in the parking lot of the Hy-Vee at 7620 State Line Road.An 81-year-old man said he was waiting in his vehicle while his wife was inside shopping. He said a woman approached his car, opened the door and pulled him out.Police said the elderly man told them the attacker repeatedly punched and kicked him while he was on the ground and eventually took what was in his pocket. The attacker eventually left in a vehicle with at least one other person, police said. The elderly man was treated at a local hospital for his injuries."It's unusual," Prairie Village police Capt. Wes Lovett said. "It doesn't occur that often at Hy-Vee on State Line. The suspect drove around the parking lot several times, saw the elderly man and i think saw a crime of opportunity to do something right then."Police describe the suspect as a 35- to 40-year-old black female, approximately 5 feet, 6 inches tall, 150 pounds and wearing dark clothing. The vehicle the woman left in is described as a possible 1990s maroon Pontiac or Buick.Anyone with information is asked to contact Investigations Division Sgt. Greg Hudson at 913-385-4608 or the TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
