BELTON, Mo. -- A Belton mother was shocked when she saw nude pictures on a camera her daughter had just bought at Walmart.

"I felt like I had bought pornography and gave it to my daughter," said the woman, who asked not to be identified.

The woman said she bought the camera three years ago at the Walmart store, at 133rd Street and State Line Road. She said the little red camera was a gift for her 13-year-old daughter for Christmas.

"We were just flipping through the camera and saw nasty pictures," she said.

On the camera's internal memory were four pictures of a nude woman in various poses.

"I freaked out and ran downstairs to show my parents," the girl said. "I was really disgusted, embarrassed and grossed out."

The mother said a police officer friend verified the pictures were shot before she bought the camera. After finding the pictures, the woman hired an attorney, but did not contact Walmart.

"I had no reason to believe Walmart wouldn't just package it up on the shelf and sell it again," she said.

The woman's attorney said Walmart admits it resells returned items if they appear to be in new condition and in the original packaging. But company officials said all digital items returned to the store are checked twice before being resold.

Walmart officials told KCTV5's Matt Stewart that they work hard to make sure customers get merchandise in the condition they expect.

A civil trial in the incident begins on Monday. The woman's attorney is seeking an undisclosed amount in damages.
