KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Two Kansas City schools have reopened after being on lockdown for about 45 minutes because of a shooting incident nearby.West Middle School and William Allen White Elementary School were locked down, according to school officials. KCTV5 has learned that at least two people are suffering from gunshot wounds."At first they put us in the corner and then turned out the lights because they thought it was an intruder alert and then they told us we wasn't allowed to go out of our classroom for the rest of the day and so we had to sit in the classroom," student Carlajah Jones said.Police told KCTV5's Betsy Webster that three men were shot when they attempted a home invasion at a house near North 47th Street and Cleveland Avenue. One man was found by police lying in the yard with a gunshot wound.The two other men fled the scene on foot and later drove themselves to the hospital.Officials said the shooting victims at Providence Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.Neighbors said they were concerned and very leery after what happened Thursday."That concerns me as a member of the neighborhood watch," neighbor Walter Justice said. "I think we need to step up our vigilance."
