Missing Kansas Girl Found Safe

HIAWATHA, Kan. -- KWCH television in Wichita is reporting Tara Simhiser has been found safe in Hiawatha, Kan., according to the Brown County Sheriff's Department.Police said Simhiser was dropped off at a bank in Hiawatha Thursday morning. She's said to be in good condition and unhurt.Brown County Sheriff John Merchant said a bank employee recognized Tara Rene Simhiser around 11:25 a.m. and contacted police, who took the Lehigh, Kan., girl into protective custody.Hiawatha Police Chief Evans Woehlecke said the girl seemed scared when officers arrived at the bank.The chief said the suspect, 21-year-old Rojelio Hernandez, was detained about 15 minutes later as he was cruising around town in a Honda Accord. Police said Hernandez is in now in jail.Investigators believed the missing Marion County teen was with a man who was seen in Riley County schools earlier this month posing as a potential transfer student.
