BATES COUNTY, Mo. -- Two people were killed in Bates County when their car was hit by a train Saturday afternoon.The Missouri Highway Patrol said Mary Redmond, 49, of Linn Valley, Kan., was driving a 1984 Oldsmobile on Route Y when her car tried to go through a protected railroad crossing.The train struck the car on the passenger side. Redmond and her passenger John South, of Amsterdam, Mo., were killed as was Redmond. Redmond was wearing a seat belt, but South was not.
