ATLANTA, Ga. -- A college student from Kansas City, Mo., was killed by a stray bullet early Thursday morning near the campus of Clark-Atlanta University.Atlanta police said Jasmine Lynn, 19, of Kansas City, Mo., was hit around 12:30 a.m. when shots were fired during a fight on the Clark-Atlanta campus.Lynn was a student at Spellman College.Lynn's family said the pain they are feeling is insurmountable.Lynn's mother said Jasmine was a smart girl, an A student throughout high school and maintained a 3.8 GPA at Spellman.Lynn's mother said before Jasmine left for college, the family held a fish fry to help pay for some of her college expenses. Jasmine was the first to go to college in her family."For me, a single mother from this area, for her to go to college, it was an honor," Constance Franklin, Lynn's mother said. "An honor."Lynn's JR ROTC teacher remembers her vividly. He said she was very smart and sometimes he says she was the mediator in conflicts between other students. The shooting came as Lynn was walking with some friends."One of the friends actually heard the gunshots, actually saw the weapon and told her to get on the ground,'' Atlanta police Lt. Keith Meadows said. "Before she was able to get on the ground she was struck in the chest by a stray round.''Meadows said an 18-year-old student from Clark-Atlanta was wounded in the wrist by a stray bullet in the same shooting.Meadows said security cameras ``probably captured the incident.''There will be a candlelight vigil tonight at 7 at the Brooklyn Park, at 53rd Street and Brooklyn Avenue.
