A charity event in Kansas City has its roots in the online world of social media on Twitter.

The event is called Twestival Local and will be held Sept. 11 at 6:30 p.m. at the Brooksider in Kansas City, Mo.

Twestival Local will benefit Kansas City animal shelter Wayside Waifs, who won an online vote as the charity of choice.

The event will feature music by Reach, The Threes and Oh, OK. Boulevard Beer is donating beer for the event and other area organizations are sponsoring the event.
