Military Family Gets Stolen Goods Back
Police Help Family Make Move To Texas
A family moving to their new home on a military base in Texas got sidetracked on a stopover in Kansas City, Mo.The Beise family were on their way to El Paso from Minnesota when they stopped for the night at a hotel on Stadium Drive. When they awoke the next morning their car and trailer packed with everything they owned was gone."We thought it had been towed," Luke Beise said. "Like we had illegally parked or something. Then we found out it was stolen."With no car, money or identification the family called relatives in Minnesota who flew in with help."This was important to us," said Police Capt. Mark Heimer of the Tactical Response Team. Here's a great family. A man fighting for his country. It was important for us to get it back to them."Police were able to find the stolen goods including Luke Beise's military gear. One week later, detectives found the trailer with all of their belongings in Belton, Mo., and Kansas City and Henry County."I was really surprised they found it so quickly, being a former police officer," Beise said. "The only thing we had going for us is that you can't hide all of that."Police escorted the family to the different cities to retrieve their stolen goods on Thursday.Kansas City police have arrested two men in connection with the case and said more arrests are expected to follow. No charges have been filed.
