A house that was once a showpiece along Ward Parkway was set to be sold at auction on the courthouse steps on Thursday, but no one made the minimum bid set by the bank at $1.1 million.

The former home of H&R Block co-founder Richard Bloch and his wife, Annette, has fallen into disrepair after being purchased by another owner. SolutionsBank made the owners a $1.1 million loan in October of 2007 to buy the house, but they have since defaulted on the loan.

The house, at 63rd Street and Ward Parkway, was built 83 years ago by J.C. Nichols. The home's original owner, appliance store owner Dan Moser, bought the English Georgian mansion for $80,000 in 1926.

During the time when the Bloch's owned the house, it was famous for its bright blue awnings. It was the Kansas City Symphony Designers’ Showhouse in 2006, but has since fallen on hard times.

Portions of the roof have been removed and several rooms in the house have been torn apart.
