People in Kansas City will soon have a place to apply for thousands of dollars to help improve their homes.

The Green Impact Zone will include houses in a 150-block area from Prospect Avenue to Troost Avenue and from East 39th Street to East 51st Street.

The homes in the zone will be weatherized, saving each homeowner an estimated $1,200 per year on utility bills.

City officials approved $42 million for the project. More money could be coming through grants.
