MIAMI COUNTY, Kan. -- Osawatomie police said a man died Thursday morning when his vehicle went off a bridge and into a river in Miami County.A dive team worked with Osawatomie police and the Kansas Highway Patrol on the attempted Marais des Cygnes River rescue.Osawatomie police spokesman Bob Butters said they received a call about the car into the river just after 6 a.m.The Miami County sheriff said crews recovered the body of David Evans, 60, of Garnett, Kan., gender unknown, from inside a pickup truck at the bottom of the river. Crews pulled the body from the river about 9:20 a.m.Butters said it is uncertain why the truck went off the bridge, but it wasn't because of high water.Witnesses told officials they watched in horror as they saw him drive in the grassy median of the highway for about 500 feet before going off the bridge.
