The effort to go green is causing a stink in Olathe.

Many residents are complaining about the city's composting site, where bio-solids from wastewater treatment plants are turned into compost and mulch that residents of the city can use for free.

Neighbors near the site said they know it's good for the environment to recycle, but the process generates a bad smell. They want something done about it.

"I definitely wish they'd do something about it. In fact, I wish I'd known before I moved in," said one nearby resident.

Neighbors said the stench problem is worst when the weather is humid and the wind is blowing.

The Olathe City Council is aware of the stink and is doing what it can to prevent it. A misting system is in place to keep the smell to a minimum.
