OLATHE, Kan. -- A local church is causing controversy as it tries to show the community that people can worship just about anywhere.Starting next month, Club Zulu in Olathe will be a place of worship, with parishioners sitting not in pews but on bar stools."This is not, as far as I'm concerned, not in keeping in line with church and its beginnings," said the Rev. E.J. Watson.Watson, a pastor at Faith Baptist Church in Olathe for 40 years, said he wouldn't start a church in a bar any more than he'd start one in a house of prostitution or a casino."I would think it would be a lot of fun to just be at the bar with a lot of people, instead of with this whole 'program' and all this," said Nathan Black.Black is the pastor of a group he calls The Vibe Olathe. He said his main focus is to show people this is not an average church. After a concert at Club Zulu on June 5, services will be held, with bibles, prayers, and even alcohol."Ultimately, I think one thing Jesus realized is that alcohol has been bringing people together for thousands and thousands of years," said Black."Oh, I've heard that parallel drawn, way back to when they were going to have church on the fishing bank. But when the truth comes out, if you've got some drinks in you, you're not in a position to get very close to the Lord," said Watson.
