Police Seek Gunman Who Killed Teen

Westport High Student Shot To Death At Post-Prom Party

Police are looking for the gunman who shot and killed a 17-year-old over the weekend.

Officers said someone shot Teri'yonna Stevenson, a junior at Westport High School, five times in a vacant parking lot near East 36th Street and Michigan Avenue early Saturday morning.

Emergency crews took the girl to a hospital where she later died.

Stevenson's father, Terry Stevenson, said that she had been at an after-prom party in that parking lot, although it wasn't her prom. He said he doesn't know what led to the shooting.

"That was my heart. They took my heart away. Words can't describe how I feel right now," said Terry Stevenson.

Ossco Bolton, director of an organization called P.O.S.S.E., Peers Organized to Support Student Excellence, said Stevenson's death was an example of the violence teens struggle with.

Someone knows something but may be afraid to talk, Bolten said. So, P.O.S.S.E. is holding a forum just for teens Tuesday night at Central High School. Teens will be encouraged to talk about whatever they want, this case or others.

Stevenson said he will be there in honor of his slain daughter.

If you have information about Terriyanna Stevenson's shooting, call the Crime Stoppers TIPS Hot Line at 816-474-TIPS (8477), text TIP452 plus a message to CRIMES (274637) or submit a tip online at kccrimestoppers.com.
