The family of a missing Kansas City, Mo., mother said on Thursday that they've accepted the grim news they didn't want to hear.

Renee M. Pernice, 35, was reported missing on Jan. 2 and family and friends have not heard from her since.

Clay County Prosecuting Attorney Daniel White said prosecutors believe foul play was involved in Pernice's disappearance and that the case changed from a missing person case because of the time that has passed since she disappeared.

No one has been arrested in the case. Police believe the woman's husband, Independence firefighter Shon Pernice, was the last person to see her. But they said he has given different dates for when he last saw her.

Police said Renee Pernice had mentioned to family members that she was considering divorcing her husband.

Thursday, her family offered a $25,000 reward in the case.

"We just can't stress enough how we need someone's help out there, someone that knows something," said Linda Lockwood, Renee Pernice's mother.

Renee Pernice's family said they have not been able to talk to her husband or see their grandchildren since she disappeared.

Her father, Rick Pretz said, "I went and visited the house, the two of us, and I went to the door and the only words that I've had from Shon were, 'Talk to my lawyers.'"

Renee Pernice's family urged anyone with any information to call the Crime Stoppers TIPS Hot Line at 816-474-TIPS (8477), text TIP452 plus a message to CRIMES (274637) or submit a tip online at kccrimestoppers.com.
