A freight train hit a vehicle on a railroad crossing, killing a man early Friday morning.

Police were sent to the wreck shortly before 6 a.m., near Dennis Avenue and the Burlington Northern railroad tracks, according to a news release.

The train pushed the vehicle about half of a mile before the train was able to stop, according to police.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

Several streets in the area were closed Friday morning while police investigated.

Police didn't release his name, because they were still notifying his family.

Olathe police urged anyone with any information about the wreck to call them at 913-971-7455.
