Kansas City Power & Light released tips Friday to help residents go green in the new year.

The company urged people to switch to energy efficient light bulbs that use 75 percent less energy and last about 6,000 hours.

The company urged people not to drink bottled water because the plastic bottles end up in landfills and to carpool or catch a bus to work.

Carpooling once a week can help alleviate traffic congestion and reduce air pollution, according to KCP&L.
