A team of detectives investigating a homicide in Harrisonville released a sketch Wednesday of a man they said was seen in the area of the killing.

Cara Jo Roberts' husband found her dead in their home in the 800 block of South Patton Street at about 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 5.

Someone killed the 30-year-old, the mother of a 2-year-old boy, between 2:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., investigators said.

The killing was the first of the year in Harrisonville, a Kansas City metropolitan area city where homicides are uncommon.

Harrisonville police asked for help from the Metro Squad, which is made up of a officers from various local agencies, to investigating the killing.

The Metro Squad normally investigates a homicide for the first 48 hours then turns the investigation back over to the local authorities.

The group of detectives investigating Roberts' killing sought and received two extensions to continue their work. The group's second extension expires on Thursday, but if they get a good lead Wednesday night, they could seek more time to investigate it.

Investigators urged anyone who recognized the man in the sketch to call them, the Metro Squad, directly at 816-380-5398 or to call the Crime Stoppers TIPS Hot Line at 816-474-TIPS (8477), text TIP452 plus a message to CRIMES (274637) or submit a tip online at kccrimestoppers.com.
