Harrisonville Killing Still A Mystery

Slain Harrisonville Woman's Brother-In-Law Seeks Answers

A team of 14 Metro Squad detectives knocked on doors again Friday in search of answers about the killing of a woman in her home Wednesday.

Danny Roberts spent Friday at a funeral home offering support to his younger brother, Jeff, who is trying to cope with the slaying of his wife, 30-year-old Cara Jo Roberts.

"It doesn't make any sense," Danny Roberts said.

Jeff Roberts returned home Wednesday evening and found Cara Roberts dead in a bathroom.

There were no signs of forced entry into their home, and the family had no idea who would want to kill the woman they described as a loving mother of a 2-year-old boy.

"Kara didn't know a stranger. Everybody was her friend, and she treated everybody that way," Danny Roberts said.

The last homicide in Harrisonville happened in 2005, so Harrisonville police asked a Metro Squad to lead the investigation into her killing.

They didn't say how she was killed and they said they didn't believe a stranger was responsible.

"There's no indication of that right now," said Metro Squad Detective Jeff Cowdrey. "We don't want to, obviously, scare the community, but we don't believe that's the case right now."

Danny Roberts said he hoped the community would give police the tip they need to unravel the mystery of who killed his sister-in-law.

"Any information we can get, any little thing, no matter how small it is might make a difference," Danny Roberts said.

The Metro Squad planned to work on the case through the weekend.

They urged anyone with any information to call the Crime Stoppers TIPS Hot Line at 816-474-TIPS (8477), text TIP452 plus a message to CRIMES (274637) or submit a tip online at kccrimestoppers.com.
