TV Station Helicopter Crashes; Two Killed

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas -- A pilot and photographer on board a new KTRK Channel 13 helicopter were killed when the aircraft crashed while covering breaking news in a rural area north of Houston on Monday, according to the station.Montgomery County sheriff's deputies said the helicopter went down near Magnolia, Texas, shortly after 11 a.m., KPRC-TV in Houston reported.The helicopter was flying over the scene of a shooting that resulted from a police chase. The helicopter crashed about 5 miles from that scene. KTRK showed video of pieces of the helicopter smashed against a tree in a forested area with part of the station's logo visible on a piece of debris.
The crash caused some trees to catch fire near the crash site.The station has not released the names of the pilot or photographer. The station, ABC affiliate KTRK, said it did not directly employ the two.The cause of the crash is under investigation.
