KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- A federal grand jury indicted a 47-year-old Kansas City, Mo., man in connection with the Sept. 17, 2007, robbery of the First State Bank at 650 Kansas Ave., in Kansas City, Kan., according to the U.S. attorney's office.Richard D. Burk was charged initially in a criminal complaint filed Sept. 26.The complaint stated he gave the teller a personal check with a note on the back demanding money."The note read: Robbery. ARMED. 100s, 50s, 20s. Warning: Don't scream, dont refuse. Now!," according to a news release from Acting U.S. Attorney Marietta Parker.
Following the robbery, authorities received a tip, and police in Kansas City, Mo., arrested Burk the day after the robbery.If convicted, Burk could be sentenced to a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison and a fine up to $250,000.
