A suburban Kansas City man convicted in a woman's videotaped sex slaying has been formally sentenced to death.

Richard Davis, 44, of Independence, officially received the sentence Friday in the May 2006 killing of Marsha Spicer, 41, also of Independence. The sentence was recommended by the Jackson County jury that convicted Davis of first-degree murder in July.

Davis also was sentenced to multiple life sentences on various other charges.

"It's a long, long process, and it's a grueling process, but when justice happens like it did in this case, it makes it all worthwhile," said Jackson County Assistant Prosecutor Ted Hunt.

Spicer was suffocated during sex at Davis' apartment and her death was videotaped.

Davis also was found guilty in a sexual attack on Michelle Huff-Ricci, 36, in April 2006.

Huff-Ricci was also killed. Davis is charged with capital murder in her death in neighboring Clay County, where her remains were found.

Davis' girlfriend, Dena Riley, also has been charged in the crimes.
