UPDATED: 1:26 pm CDT September 8, 2008

A 59-year-old man died after being shot by Lenexa police officers who were responding to a domestic violence call.

The shooting occurred about 1:45 p.m. Sunday. Police said in a news release that the officers entered a home in response to a domestic violence call and were confronted by a man. Officers shot the man after he pointed a weapon at them.

It is not clear what kind of weapon the man had. A police spokesman could not be immediately reached.

The man died at the scene. His name was not immediately released.

The officers were not injured, and the shooting is under investigation.

"I was watching the Chiefs game and I heard a pop, pop, and it sounded like bullets, you know, shots to me, fired, but I didn't know where and then I heard sirens," said neighbor Susan Ward. "That kind of thing doesn't happen around here."
