EDWARDSVILLE, Kan. -- Police descended on a mobile home park in a small town outside Kansas City after a dispute between a man and his girlfriend, neighbors said.Families who live in the mobile home village in Edwardsville woke up surrounded by a number of officers, roads blocked off and armored vehicles rolling through their neighborhood on Monday.Police said they were called to the mobile home of Patricia Thomas after she tried to break up with her 41-year-old boyfriend.Thomas said it started Sunday night when she left the mobile home and he followed her. She went to Overland Park with a friend and he found her there, Thomas said. She said he threw her out of the truck and stole her keys and her identification.
She said he came back to the mobile home and barricaded himself, armed with a gun.Thomas said her boyfriend told her at about 3 or 4 a.m. that he was going to do a "suicide by cop."After hours of negotiating with him, police used force to bring the man out of the home around noon, ramming the front door with the long metal arm of their armored vehicle.Thomas said she's relieved he was taken away unharmed. The man was booked into the Wyandotte County jail.
