BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. -- A triple shooting that left two men dead and a 13-year-old boy in critical condition was the result of a murder-suicide between two brothers, Blue Springs police said.Detective Troy Pharr said the brothers, ages 38 and 44, got into an argument Tuesday night. The younger brother, Roy Sawvell, pulled a gun and shot the 44-year-old, Daniel Sawvell, twice, they said."The 13-year-old just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time," Pharr said.Pharr said the 38-year-old brother then went into the living room and killed himself. The preliminary ruling from the medical examiner confirmed the murder-suicide, police said.
The brothers' sister called 911 about a domestic disturbance at the duplex at about 10:30 p.m. and asked for police to intervene. The brothers' mother was in the home at the time of the shootings but couldn't stop the disagreement, and before police could get to the home, the shootings occurred. The teenager, the son of the 44-year-old brother, was in critical but stable condition late Wednesday at a Kansas City hospital.Police had been called to the home several times in the past, and there was a rule at the police station that when an officer was called to the residence, the officer was to bring several other officers along and approach the home with extreme caution.
