Man Shoots At Couple In Ice Cream Truck

Homeowner Shoots As Driver Turns Truck Around

A couple driving an ice cream truck told police a homeowner shot at them on Monday afternoon.

Billy Horn, the driver, said he and his wife couldn't get their ice cream van turned around because there were so many cars in the street. He backed into Curtis McKenzie's driveway near East 66th Street and Lydia Avenue to turn around.

"I see him with a shotgun in his hand. I'm focusing back on the street, but I can hear the shotgun cock," said Horn.

McKenzie was arrested.

Horn and his wife moved to Kansas City after losing family members in Hurricane Katrina. They said this is just the latest in a string of troubles they've encountered here. They're considering moving back to New Orleans.

The bullet came too close to his wife, Horn said. "Besides everything else, my wife is all I worry about. That's all I have. If she's gone, I'm lost."

McKenzie was charged with unlawful use of a weapon.
