KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The City Council voted unanimously Thursday for a resolution directing the city manager to devise a plan to mow all private lots where weeds are too high.Councilmember Cathy Jolly and the Public Safety and Neighborhoods Committee brought the resolution to the table.Places with high weeds quickly become places of high crime, areas where drug activity and even homicides can take place, according to the council members. With the resolution, council members mowing the properties will not only help rid the areas of crime but will beautify them as well.
The mayor acknowledged that the cost of the project wouldn't be cheap but said the city would bill the property owners for the costs and that if necessary, the budget would be shifted around to make it work.
