KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- A man and a woman arrived home Tuesday to find their house on fire. They called 911 and firefighters raced to 2733 N. Tremont St.Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames, but the blaze caused extensive damage to the home. No one was injured, but fire officials suspected arson, and so did the woman who lived in the home."The whole thing is destroyed. It's destroyed. I don't know what we'll do," resident Cherrie Volk said.
Volk said they had left the house for just a couple of minutes and returned to find the fire."We were re-wiring the house, and we were using a generator for our electricity so the electricity was not even hooked up to the pole, so it couldn't have been electrical," Volk said. "It looks like someone might have done something because … I walked through the entire house. There was no fire inside."A lot of houses in the area had burned lately, she said."I don't know what that's about," Volk said. "I just feel devastated."Volk was able to get her cat out of the house.Later Tuesday, someone stole a generator that was at the house.
