A Kearney day care is closed indefinitely after an early Sunday morning fire damaged the baby room and attic.

Firefighters answered an automatic alarm call around 3:15 a.m. at the Town of Tots day care center at 103 S. Jefferson Street.

The day care is connected to a 100-year-old church, but that part of the building did not sustain any damage.

The day care owner, Jackie Slivinski, told KCTV5 she is in contact with the parents of the 66 children she cares for to help them find alternative baby-sitting arrangements for Monday.

Fire officials estimate a total of about $30,000 in damage to the building and contents.

Investigators said the fire was accidental and indicated the cause was electrical.
