OLATHE, Kan. -- Thieves broke into an Olathe home and stole a man's socks and underwear and his gun collection. They took more than 70 guns and hundreds of pounds of ammunition from auctioneer Robert Blake's home early Tuesday morning on East 126th Street near North Woodland Road. The family members left their house at about 1 a.m. to do their paper route. They're gone for three hours every night, and that was when the thieves struck. The thieves smashed in the back door and stole the guns and ammunition and jewelry, video games and other items, including the man's socks and underwear.
The thieves loaded up everything into the man's pickup, and hours later, Kansas City, Kan., police found the man's truck burned. It had been covered in gasoline and set ablaze. They used spare keys the man kept in a coffee can above his refrigerator to drive the truck away, so the family said they thought whoever burglarized them either knew them or had been watching them."Why did they pick my house? I'm the third house up. Why did they pick me instead of the second house or the fourth house? Somebody's been watching or knew or something," Blake said.Blake found two cans of gasoline inside the house. He wondered if they had originally planned to burn down his home.
