Gas Prices Hurting Meals On Wheels

UPDATED: 6:26 pm CDT July 11, 2008

Gas prices are hurting the Meals On Wheels program in rural communities.

Volunteers drive meals to people who can't get out, and some volunteers can no longer afford to help out.

As a result, even the manager of the program is delivering meals.

The organization delivers more than 40 meals in Osawatomie. There are 40 delivered in Paola, Kan., and 80 in Ottawa, Kan.

Volunteers are needed throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area. Those interested in helping out can contact a local senior center.
