KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A man is dead following a kidnapping outside a popular barbecue restaurant in Kansas City on Sunday night.Police said a woman was kidnapped at gunpoint from the Gates parking lot on Brooklyn Avenue. Witnesses wrote down the alleged kidnapper's license plate number.Police traced the tag number and about 15 minutes later were knocking at the suspect's door in the 3800 block of East 35th Street around 11:30 p.m.Officers said the woman ran out of the house. She had been shot in the leg. She was taken by ambulance to the hospital. The suspect came out of the house onto the front porch twice, smoking a cigarette and then heading back inside, police said.Officers said they heard a gunshot. They believe the suspect shot himself.Sgt. Tony Sanders, of the Kansas City, Mo., Police Department, said police don't feel as if the kidnapping was random. "They had been in a relationship and knew each other. It wasn't a random kidnapping like that, per say. He may have followed her there, had knowledge she'd be at that particular location. That's when he decided to forceably take her away from there," he said. The woman is expected to recover.
