LEAWOOD, Kan. -- A new design of summer shoes could be hiding an illegal stash.A company is offering flip-flop flasks for sale. They look like regular flip-flops, but include a small flask in the heel. They come with a bottle opener, a key and a funnel. The flip-flop flasks sell for $50 at the Brass Buckle in Leawood.KCTV5 News sent a teen into the Brass Buckle to buy a pair of the flip-flops. He asked if the flip-flop flasks would be going on sale soon. She answered that it would be unlikely. "We're requesting more because we can't keep them in stock," she said. "That's one of the last ones."Local police said it's not illegal for teens to wear them empty, but if they're caught with liquor in the flask, they could be charged as a minor in possession of alcohol or an open container violation."Basically, we'd look at this as just like an open bottle," said Leawood police Sgt. Kevin Cauley. "If they had a half-pint of whisky in the glove box or whatever. It's really no different."They are flasks are also available for sale online.
