Heavy Rain Leads To High Water
Flooding A Concern After Severe Storms
High water was reported in several parts of the Kansas City metropolitan area Friday after a night of severe thunderstorms that brought heavy rain to the region.In Riverside, Mo., the Missouri River topped its banks and flooded part of Riverfront Park near Northwest Argosy Parkway. A walkway along the banks of the river was covered in spots, and water could be seen behind Argosy Casino.In Parkville, Mo., creeks in English Landing Park were swollen, but no water from them or the nearby Missouri River had covered the baseball fields.A weekend event, the Parkville River Jam, was moved from the park to the downtown parking lots just south of the railroad tracks.In Sibly, Mo., flood stage for the river is 22 feet. It was at 26 feet Friday morning and is expected to crest Saturday at 29 feet. In Napoleon, Mo., the river has topped its flood stage, 17 feet.There have been no reports of any homes being flooded, but during the storms, flash flooding was reported in the usual low-lying spots.The Missouri Department of Transportation announced the following road closures in Northwest Missouri due to high water.As of Friday morning, in Buchanan County, Route H was closed two miles before Route FF to .8 miles after Route FF. Route FF was closed at Agency, and Route MM was closed 2 miles south of Route DD.In Nodaway County, Route 46 was closed between Route PP and Route 113. Route C was closed between U.S. Highway 71 and Route KK. Route DD was closed between Catalina Road and Route 113.In Holt County, Route 111 was closed between Craig and Coming.In Andrew County, Route T was closed at Route K. Route 48 was closed east and west of Rosendale.
