Tornado Touches Down In Linwood
Severe storms moved through the Kansas City metropolitan area Thursday night, bringing with them a tornado, high winds, lightning, hail and heavy rain.A tornado touched down shortly after 8 p.m. near 166th Street and Kansas Avenue in Linwood, Kan., according to a preliminary storm report from the National Weather Service.Some tree damage was reported in Linwood, KCTV5 Meteorologist Devon Lucie said.Flash flooding and flooding remained a threat late Thursday night.Overland Park, Kan., police urged drivers to be aware of the usual high water spots, and they warned them not to drive through the area if they became covered with water.Three low-lying spots in Overland Park that routinely have problems include West 151st Street and Kenneth Road, West 163rd Street and Mission Road and West 162nd Street and South Switzer Road.The severe weather followed an overnight round of deadly tornadoes in Kansas. Two people died when twisters hit Chapman and Soldier. Much of the town of Chapman was destroyed.Storms also hit Manhattan, causing $20 million in damage to Kansas State University.
