Storms Leave High Water In Metro

UPDATED: 1:26 pm CDT June 4, 2008

Floods stranded people in their homes and caused damage Tuesday night as storms rolled through the metro area.

A family of four was rescued from their Belton home early Wednesday morning after water rushed through their front door. They spent the night in a motel after fire crews helped them evacuate.

They returned to their home later Wednesday morning to survey the damage. The first floor was covered in mud and floodwater and their furniture was turned upside down.

Outside their home, four cars that were parked in the front had washed away and landed in the back yard. Their garage, filled with antique stoves and ovens, was moved 50 feet away.

The Red Cross is assisting families affected by the flood.

Flooding in Lake Winnebago shut down the police station, left a boat in someone's front yard and ruined several homes.

The police department is working out of yacht club, because there was still a foot of water in the building on Wednesday morning.

Residents in the southeast area of the metro most affected by the flooding said they haven't seen flooding this bad in the last 15 years.

No injuries were reported.
