EPA Monitors Air Quality After Fire
EPA Responds To Magellan Fire In KCK

KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- U.S. Environmental Protection Agency employees will monitor air quality from about 60 locations in the metro area on Wednesday, following a massive fire at a petroleum storage tank in Kansas City, Kan.Emergency responders portable instruments at the scene to assess the environmental impact of the fire and to screen for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and particulate matter. The initial data indicated only minor detections of VOCs, according to an EPA news release.Teams will continue to monitor the area, mostly from locations near the path of the smoke plume from the fire, for any changes in the air quality.EPA will post the results of the testing on the EPA Region 7 Web site.
