RAYMORE, Mo. -- The Cass County assistant prosecutor resigned Monday after being charged with driving under the influence.Michael Taylor, who has been the assistant prosecutor for 3½ years and has tried some high-profile cases, was stopped by police on Friday night."I got a ticket. It's a public record and I don't have any comment beyond that," said Taylor.According to the police report, a Raymore officer said that he spotted Taylor's Jeep around 1:30 a.m., twice drifting toward the curb, then overcorrecting and eventually making a turn so wide that it was in the oncoming lane for 50 feet.
The report said Taylor's breath had a "strong odor of intoxicating beverages," "his eyes were bloodshot," "his speech was slurred" and "he was swaying" when he got out of his Jeep.According to the report, Taylor told police he had nothing to say and refused to take a Breathalyzer test, so police took his driver's license and set a court date.Cass County Prosecutor Teresa Hensley told KCTV5 that it was, "An unfortunate situation because he is an excellent trial lawyer."Hensley said she accepted Taylor's resignation because her office's credibility was at stake and, "It is important to have people in this office who have good judgment."Hensley said Taylor has spent more than two years preparing to prosecute two murder cases that go to trial in three weeks. She said it's possible he will still try those cases, even though he no longer officially works with her office.
