Fleeing Man Hits Car, Killing Mom, Daughter

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A mother and daughter died Monday night after a parole absconder who sped off when police pulled him over slammed his truck into their vehicle, Kansas City police said.Suavae R. Rouser, 12, died at the scene of the wreck, and her mother, Tiffany A. Berry, 33, died a few hours later.Berry's other daughters were riding in the vehicle and suffered minor injuries.The collision happened at about 8 p.m. at East 23rd Street and Montgall Avenue.
Police stopped the truck near East 23rd Terrace and Myrtle Avenue because it was being driven erratically, according to a news release from Kansas City police.When it stopped, two passengers got out. Police detained them, and the truck pulled away and headed west on East 23rd Street.The officers stayed with the passengers and told police dispatchers that the truck had left.Near East 23rd Street and Montgall Avenue, the truck collided with Berry's 1999 Chevrolet Malibu.The truck flipped onto its side and slid into the intersection of East 23rd Street and Prospect Avenue, where other officers were waiting, according to police.Police took the driver of the truck into custody when he climbed out of the truck and tried to run away.He was being held without bond Tuesday, but prosecutors weren't expected to file charges in connection with the deadly wreck against him until after Tuesday.One of the truck passengers had cocaine in his possession, and police took him into custody. He was being held for possession of narcotics.
