A recent homicide victim is able to help a family member after his death.

The mother of the man killed celebrated Thursday night the fact that her son's death ended up saving her mother's life.

Brandon Burtin, 21, was shot on the corner of East 34th Street and College Avenue on Monday. He died on Tuesday.

Burtin's organs were harvested and his grandmother, who had been on dialysis, got his kidney.

"That was my baby. I miss him so much. But he's living on in my mother. So we can still have laughs and jokes," said Nancy Stinnett, Burtin's mother.

Stinnett said her son's liver was given to a 10-year-old boy and his corneas helped two people in need.

Detectives have no leads on Burtin's homicide. They ask anyone with information to call the Crime Stoppers TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
