BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. -- A 4-year-old boy was struck and killed while riding his bike in his neighborhood Thursday evening.

Residents in the neighborhood near Southwest Ninth Street and Robin Circle said the driver of a Rent-A-Center truck was backing up when the truck struck Mason McBride.

Neighbor Isaiah Rivas said, "My gosh, he was just riding right next to me just a couple seconds ago; now he's laying on the ground."

The child died at the scene.

Neighbors said the 21-year-old driver of the truck got out and tried to help. Police questioned the driver, but no charges were filed.

"It appears it is just a tragic accident. The little boy was crossing and the driver didn't see him," said Detective Jeremy Dickstein.
