Copper Theft Cuts Phone Service To Hundreds

POSTED: 5:54 pm CDT April 17, 2008
UPDATED: 11:41 am CDT April 18, 2008

Nearly 1,000 customers lost phone and Internet service Wednesday after someone stole $10 worth of copper from a phone line.

Crews worked feverishly Thursday to repair the damage in the 5500 block of Waukomis Drive, but it could be days before they restore service to all of the customers.

Stacey Morris lost phone service and said she'll be uneasy until her phone service is restored because her daughter won't be able to call 911 if she needed to.

The Northmoor outage was the second phone outage in the Kansas City metropolitan area caused by copper thieves in recent weeks.

Authorities urged anyone with any information about the theft to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
