Prosecutors: Teen 'Known Associate' Of Gang

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Prosecutors charged a 19-year-old in a home invasion in the 7400 block of East 52nd Terrace, according to a news release from the Jackson County prosecutor's office.On Jan. 23, a woman answered a knock on her door and Shawn L. Burkhalter forced his way into her home and held a gun to her head while five other people stole items from inside, according to the news release.Prosecutors charged Burkhalter with first-degree robbery, armed criminal action and first-degree burglary, according to the news release.During the home invasion, the victim recalled that one of the home invaders called her "Ms. Mona," a name neighborhood children and children who rode her school bus called her, prosecutors said.
They took a portable DVD player, an Xbox 360, a PlayStation 2 and a small fire safe. They also took her car keys and left in her 1999 GMC Yukon.Prosecutors claimed Burkhalter was a "known associate" of the Fave-Ace-Deuce gang and that police took him into custody at a residence where members of the gang were believed to meet.Police found the victim's safe and the two video game systems, prosecutors said.Prosecutors requested that Burkhalter be held on a $250,000 cash bond.
