KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The city of Kansas City released the results of a citizen survey Wednesday. In a survey, 70 percent of Kansas City residents rated the city a good or excellent place to live.Citywide, 63 percent of survey respondents rated Kansas City a good or excellent place to work. Only 52 percent graded the city as a good or excellent place to raise children. Results were gathered from four areas of the city, and more than 4,000 households filled out the survey, which was taken in November and December.
The percentage of survey respondents who expressed a feeling of safety in the city increased over last year, as did satisfaction with city services and code enforcement.City Auditor Gary L. White said citizen satisfaction is still near or at the bottom for code enforcement efforts, some public safety activities, and some city maintenance services, compared with surrounding communities and other metropolitan areas of equal size.White said customer service and communication satisfaction has increased this year.According to White, respondents from the east side of the city were less satisfied with some city services and more reported that they or a member of their household were victims of crime in the last year, while Northland respondents were more satisfied and fewer had been victims of crime.
