UPDATED: 8:12 am CST February 25, 2008

Two police officers were injured in a wreck as they tried to catch a carjacking suspect early Monday morning, police said.

Shortly after 12:30 a.m., police were chasing a possible carjacker eastbound on Emanuel Cleaver II Boulevard when one police car slammed into the back of the other, knocking the front car off the road, police said.

The front patrol car crashed through a fence and came to rest next to an apartment building on Paseo Boulevard.

Police said the injured officers were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

A minivan that matched the description of the carjacked vehicle was later found abandoned.

Slick roads were blamed for the wreck, police said.
